The Andrew Goodman Foundation hosted its 2019 National Civic Leadership Training Summit from June 19 – 23 at Montclair State University for student leaders from their 59 partner universities and colleges. The Summit focused on teaching the students how to increase civic engagement and participation on their campuses.
This year’s Summit was even more significant because it honored the 55th anniversary of the murders by the KKK of Andrew Goodman, James Chaney, and Michael Schwerner, volunteers registering African-Americans to vote in Mississippi. The workshops focused on bringing polling sites to campuses, building intersectional movements, and more.

On May 22, TD+Partners and J.G. Petrucci Company Inc. broke ground on The Station at Grant Avenue, a housing development in Plainfield for working families. This redevelopment project will revitalize a former brownfield site with a 5 story, 90-unit energy-efficient building with 1-3 bedroom apartments, a fitness facility, and on-site parking. The residences will feature stone countertops, hardwood flooring, and Energy Star appliances including full-size washers and dryers. The Station at Grant Avenue is the second phase of a $40 million mixed-use redevelopment project.
In May, Rising Tide Capital commemorated the purchase of 311 MLK, a building that will serve as the organization’s new national headquarters and a full-service Urban Entrepreneurship Accelerator. 311MLK will also feature 10 units of affordable housing, co-working space, and on-site classrooms in order to provide underserved entrepreneurs with the support and resources needed to develop sustainable businesses that build their community. The event also marked the 15th anniversary of the founding of RTC.
