Passaic County CASA has joined a coalition with 5 other county nonprofits to ensure that families in need continue to have uninterrupted access to crucial services while minimizing community spread of COVID-19. The coalition is dedicated to sharing resources, coordinating strategy, planning, and establishing a mutual aid network to provide homebound and at-risk populations with food and other essential needs.

Adenah Bayoh’s Response to COVID-19

While Adenah’s restaurants are operating in a limited capacity, this restaurateur and developer is serving free breakfast and lunch to families in need at her 3 IHOP locations. Until school reopens, families in Newark, Irvington, and Paterson will be able to take out pancakes for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch on weekdays. Not only is Adenah also working with Irvington Township Councilwoman Jamilah Beasley to deliver free meals to seniors, but she is also ensuring that all of her employees, whether they can work or not, are paid for the next 2 weeks.

Passaic County CASA has joined a coalition of 5 Paterson NJ nonprofits to advocate for the city’s most vulnerable populations and ensure that their needs are met.

PC CASA has ceased in-person home visits for the month of March and closed their office, but all employees are working remotely. CASA will continue to recruit volunteers, hold information sessions, and facilitate initial volunteer training virtually. Passaic County CASA is seeing an increase of very young children in foster care due to the opioid crisis. The organization, which exists to recruit, train and support volunteer advocates for children in foster care, wanted to raise attention to their latest challenge, while reminding the public of the need for more advocates. On December 18, not only was PC CASA featured on NJTV, but Executive Director Erica Fischer-Kaslander’s op ed was published in the Star Ledger—the state’s largest newspaper.

On September 20th Passaic County CASA held its annual Voices for Children Gala at the Preakness Hills Country Club in Wayne.
