On November 8th, nonprofit Rising Tide Capital (RTC) received a $1 million investment from JPMorgan Chase (JPMC) at the organization’s annual celebration of entrepreneurship, “RISE To Expand Opportunity,” which took place at Harborside Atrium in Jersey City. Joy Mangano, UN Ambassador and the inspiration behind Oscar-nominated film Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence, co-hosted the event.
Edna Rashid, a Newark grandmother, and graduate of Rising Tide Capital’s Community Business Academy, started her own business, NF Insulation, which provides eco-friendly mechanical insulation services for commercial and industrial buildings. This year, NF Insulation secured a $100,000 contract with Verizon and she has more contracts on the way.

On May 9th, 2018, EWNJ honored 32 of New Jersey’s most influential and accomplished women leaders, including First Lady Tammy Murphy, at its signature biennial gala, Salute to the Policy Makers.
On May 22th, 2018, Irvington Mayor Tony Vauss, the Irvington Township Council, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, and HillTop Partners Urban Renewal LLC will cut the ribbon on 280 Park Place.
On May 20th, 2018 the City of Plainfield hosted the New Jersey State Bicycle Championships, which featured over 200 professional cyclists from around the world.
On May 15th, 2018 on the steps of City Hall, Mayor Adrian O. Mapp hosted a press conference to announce that the City of Plainfield was selected to host the 2018 New Jersey State Bicycle Championships and to announce the June 1st launch of the city’s bike share initiative, which is the first LimeBike program in the state.
On November 30, the Urban Mayors Association hosted the New Jersey Urban Redevelopment Awards at The Heldrich Hotel in New Brunswick.
On Monday November 6th, Adenah Bayoh cut the ribbon on her new restaurant concept Cornbread in Maplewood, NJ. Cornbread is a fast casual, farm-to-table soul food restaurant through which Adenah is looking to disrupt the conventional approach to dining and soul food.
